DiveVB Jetty Cleanup and Shipwreck Search Opportunities

Hi DiveVB bubble blowers! I hope you all are doing well despite the seemingly never-ending winds that keep cancelling my charters this year! As a wise man once said, when the wind blows hard, time to go shore diving. And thankfully we’ve done a bit of that this year! You can check out some videos from the Carl Gerhard and Duck Pier in the gallery.

But there’s more exciting news! DiveVB will be hosting a cleanup of the Little Creek Jetty in Norfolk some time this coming November. Recently, a few of us went for a dive there on a day with pleasant weather and found a gnarly net caught around the end of the rocks and the sign structure. On the very same dive, I saw something I’ve never seen before in the water - a baby sea turtle swimming right in front of me (of course, the one dive I didn’t bring my camera)! What an experience. I’d never want that little guy to be caught in a net, so we’re going to go cut out and remove it. The more hands, the quicker the work, so please shoot info@divevb.com an email if you’re interested in helping clean up this little part of the bay! We will schedule a date once we get some responses back so most people can make it!

Another exciting development… DiveVB members may have located a shipwreck within swimming distance off Virginia Beach! One member obtained a clear scan on boat side-scan sonar. We’re keeping the location under wraps until we know more. Reach out to info@divevb.com if you’re interested in being part of the recon team that’s checking out this unidentified shipwreck and evaluating it as a potential shore dive in Virginia Beach!

Exciting things are happening! I hope you all are able to get involved - if not right now, then look out this spring when I send dates for dive trips off the coast of Virginia Beach!
